When cleaning laminate wood floors, you should know a few things first.

Laminate wood flooring is made with wood products but contains no solid wood. It consists of fiberboard with a moisture-resistant layer underneath and a photographic image of natural wood flooring on top, finished with a hard, clear coating.

It is fairly easy to clean and maintain; all you need for cleaning laminate wood floors are a light vacuum cleaner or broom, and a damp towel for any spots. Vacuum regularly to keep dust, dirt, and grit off the floor and this will also help avoid scratches. Never clean laminate wood floors with anything abrasive, such as cleanser, sandpaper, or steel wool. If you have scratches from grit or gravel, you will not be able to buff them out. Remember, unlike real hardwood, the woodgrain is only as deep as the photograph.

You can take cleaning laminate wood floors to the next level by damp cleaning with a vinegar solution. For example, put 1/4 cup vinegar into a 32-ounce spray bottle and fill with plain water. Then mop with a damp mop, spraying the floor as you go along. It’s best to dry the floor afterward with a soft cloth; don’t leave any standing water as it may warp the panels or soften the glue. Most manufacturers recommend against using Murphy Oil Soap for cleaning laminate wood floors.

Never wax, polish, or attempt to refinish your laminate floor.

You can make cleaning laminate wood floors easier by using a floor restorer on your floor once it is clean. A commercial grade floor restorer, such as Pro Shot® Floor Restorer, will keep new floors looking new, make older floors look new again, and can even make cheap laminate floors look expensive. Pro Shot® Floor Restorer is inexpensive, easy to apply, dries to a mirror-like finish in about 30 minutes, and is UL-listed for slip resistance. It will also fill any scratch marks and protect the floors from spills, stains, and black heel marks.

Cleaning laminate wood floors is pretty easy, but you will make yourself look like a real pro when you use Pro Shot® Floor Restorer. Pro Shot® Floor Restorer contains no petroleum, so it has no offensive odor or smelly fumes.
